…and so it begins…
I’d been hesitating announcing this as it was a particularly busy holidays for me and my family. But Santa delivered a little present on Boxing day:
I am thrilled to announce that Truth Panel – Terms and Conditions is now available worldwide.
This project is a true labour of love. I consider it a culmination of everything I am as a musician and producer. With this band I finally truly found one of the ultimate expressions of my music. Certainly everything I ever wanted from being in a band. I found 3 amazing friends, brothers, comrades-in-arms, in Sten Ardal, Bill Nygren, and my brother from a newfie mother Ian Campbell. (Not to disparage Cynthia Hallett, my eternal muse and writing partner who is still my musical first and last.)
And then to have it taken away…
Life conspires to pull things apart. Change is the only thing that doesn’t change. When you’re a teenager the bass player sleeps with the drummers girlfriend. The lead guitar player wants more spotlight. The lead singer sucks but doesn’t know it.
With Truth Panel none of that was true. For once our ego, though still present, were kept in check. But we had ‘old man’ band problems. Divorces, heart attacks, bankruptcies, degenerative nerve diseases, cancer. Life. We will forever remain friends, brothers. But sadly the band may not rise from the ashes. (I’m not totally counting it out, but it’s a long shot)
But in return for everything we received, we give the world this album. An almost perfect expression of what we were musically. It was a labour of love 4 years in the making. Much of it is constructed from demo recordings we’d planned to replaced. But when a key member lives in Langafang China, that proves difficult. Plus, many of the original recording couldn’t be topped, so in they go. Lesson learnt.
I pullout out all my stops to make this sound amazing. Had help from many people along the way, aside from my bandmates. Andy Krehm for his support, facilities, mastering and mostly patience. Grant Edmonds for his facilities and feedback. Chris Hegge for his amazing engineering skills. A true seeker of sound. A studio soul brother. Fighting his own health issue. Be strong brother, this album’s for you too. Digs Dorfman for being my sounding board. Hatley Edmonds for her patience putting up with me being distracted from her project.
I want to write about all the cool tricks I had to make this album what it was. Maybe for another day. For now, I will just say, there is only tuning, editing, or cleaning on about %15 of this album. This is four guys, and two special (Surprise) guests, David Findlay and Gim Ardal, playing their fucking hearts out.
I love this record. And I hope you do too. Please play and enjoy it. And play it LOUD. It’s meant to be played loud.
World, I give you Truth Panel through the eyes of Measuring Man.
